Blues join chase for Italian goal machine.
Chelsea could be set to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of AS Roma striker Mattia Destro if Fernando Torres leaves before the end of the summer, according to Le Figaro.
The Italian international was in fine form last season, scoring 13 goals in just 20 games to attract interest from a host of top clubs, with Spurs most strongly linked with him for much of this transfer window.
However, with Torres’ Stamford Bridge future in doubt, it could still be that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will look to bring in a third signing upfront this summer to join new-boys Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.
Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba have already been offloaded as Mourinho seeks to revamp his attacking options after some disappointing displays upfront last season.
