Chelsea hope to break the transfer record for a British player with a bid for Man Utd ace.
Chelsea are ready to test Manchester United’s resolve to keep Wayne Rooney with a renewed offer of £40 million, according to the Metro.
The west London side had an offer rejected last month, thought to be around the £27m mark, with the Blues furious that the story leaked in Chinese whispers fashion, and vehemently denied that either Juan Mata or David Luiz were to be included in a high profile swap deal.
A £40m cash deal could be more appealing to the Red Devils, who are desperate to convince FC Barcelona to allow playmaker Cesc Fabregas move to Old Trafford.
A £40m boost to the Manchester United coffers would certainly help fund that move, but publicly David Moyes has been quite clear in his desire to keep Rooney at the club, and likely has little interest in improving one of his club’s main rivals for the title.
Rooney scored 13 times and provided 13 assists in 33 Premier League and UEFA Champions League appearances last season.
