Blues owner Abramovich has message for supporters…
Chelsea’s Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich has addressed supporters in a message in the programme of the Blues’ opening Premier League match of the season against Hull City Tigers.
The oil tycoon rarely ever talks to the press, but thanked supporters today for their dedication during his ten year stint at Stamford Bridge.
“We have had a great decade together and the club could not have achieved it all without you. thanks for your support, here’s to many more years of success,” he wrote.
The Russian’s stay at Chelsea has been very successful, and very ruthless. The Blues have won league titles, FA Cups, League Cups, a Champions League, a Europe League, mainly thanks to the £713m the owner has splashed out on world-class footballers.
He has also sacked high-profile managers, like Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas and Luis Felipe Scolari, and famously fell out with current boss Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese manager’s first stint at Stamford Bridge.
The pair will hope for a less frosty relationship this time around though, as the Blues embark on a Premier league season in which they have been installed as favourites to win.
