Misfiring striker to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres may have, on paper at least, been relegated to being the club’s third choice striker behind Diego Costa and Didier Drogba, but it looks as though he will be staying at the club, with ITV reporting that Blues manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the Spanish international will be staying at Stamford Bridge.
The former Atletico Madrid man has endured a miserable time at Chelsea since being signed for a record fee from Premier League rivals Liverpool, having struggled to find the back of the net at the same rate that he did for the Reds.
Torres spent much of last season vying with Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba for the role of lone striker – and the fact that Torres was unable to consistently nail the position down against two players who were moved on this summer will have concerned Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager, however, has been keen to stress the need to have three viable centre forward options available to him, and that Torres will remain one of those options for the new campaign:
“Three strikers is fundamental in a squad and we have three strikers – Fernando, Didier and Diego, so one of them is not [leaving] for sure.”
However, should Mourinho manage to bring in another striker, then the situation could become less clear cut – although this does seem to a long way off at this point.
