Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is confident that Jose Mourinho will turn things around and ensure that the Blues have a successful year.
The Premier League champions have endured a difficult start to the season, losing two of their first four games to leave them eight points adrift of Man City already.
However, Lampard believes that they will overcome their early troubles and get back to competing at the top of the table before long.
“These things can happen,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “They were a dominant side last year and won the league quite rightly.
“Sometimes things don’t always go as well for you but Chelsea are certainly capable of coming back from that.
“I always fancied Chelsea and City to be the strong teams this year.”
Lampard ended a 13-year stint at Stamford Bridge to join City before moving to MLS franchise New York City, but he went on to reveal that due to his affiliation with Chelsea, he will continue to monitor how his former side do.
Mourinho has come under early pressure given their slump, but he will be hoping that the international break came at a perfect time to give his men the change to regroup and focus on defending their crown.
