Chelsea boss eyeing long term successor for Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are thought to be looking at Bayern Munich’s versatile full back David Alaba as a long term successor for Ashley Cole on the left side.
England star Cole was recently awarded a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge for another season, but the club are already planning for the future, and Alaba could be an ideal solution.
The ‘FC Hollywood’ star has started ten games this season, after an early injury delayed the beginning of his campaign, and has impressed when he has played.
It will likely take a large offer for Chelsea to entice him away from the Allianz Arena, but the 20 year-old looks set for at least a decade at the highest level, so looks set to be money well spent.
Chelsea of course also have Ryan Bertrand to fill in behind Cole, but the young Englishman has typically played for the Blues further up the pitch – not least in their stunning UEFA Champions League victory over Bayern Munich on penalties.
An attacking full back with great energy, Alaba could offer regular support to the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata in attack, and could also play high on the left in the event any of those players are injured or suspended.
A summer transfer likely depends on whether Pep Guardiola takes a shine to the Austrian international or not.
