The Blues want Mangala and Imbula when the transfer window opens…
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has earmarked Marseille’s defensive midfielder Giannelli Imbula and Porto’s centre-half Eliaquim Mangala as priority transfer targets, reports the Express.
The two young Frenchman have impressed so far this season, and are quickly establishing themselves as two of the hottest properties in European football.
Imbula, 21, plays the anchoring role for Ligue 1 side Marseille, and has impressed Chelsea’s scouts with his combative, all-action style. Blues boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly not happy with his current defensive midfield options, and wants Imbula to replace John Obi Mikel or Michael Essien and challenge Ramires for a starting spot.
Marseille would do business for £25m, which is steep considering he has yet to win a full cap for the French national team.
Mangala has a £37m release clause, and Porto are adamant that they will not do business for anything less. The 22-year-old has been outstanding for the Portuguese side over two seasons, helping them win the title last season with ease, conceding only 14 goals all term.
With Gary Cahill currently struggling to even get in the Chelsea lineup however, it seems strange that Mourinho would want to bring in further competition, although he may see Mangala as a long-term John Terry replacement.
