Following the hapless defeat away to Crystal Palace this weekend, Jose Mourinho could get rid of all four of the club’s strikers this summer, reports the Guardian.
The Blues have lacked firepower up top all season long, and Mourinho is desperate to strengthen the position in the summer, and has earmarked a £35m move for Atletico Madrid hitman Diego Costa.
Samuel Eto’o’s contract expires in the summer, while Fernando Torres will surely be ending his nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge having only scored 19 league goals in his four seasons at the club. Demba Ba has barely had a sniff this season, starting only two matches, while Mourinho has publicly fallen out with currently on loan Romelu Lukaku.
“I don’t think it’s the moment to speak about next season and the market but it’s clear to everybody that Chelsea next year wants to bring a striker,” said Mourinho.
“What’s the future for the other strikers? The ones who are staying are competing with the striker we are bringing. And normally, at the end of the season, players that are not playing a lot or players who are not happy may prefer a change. That is also part of the market. We want to improve the team and the players and make some surgical movements in the transfer window.”
This term, Chelsea’s forwards have only managed 15 between them, and it could well cost them the Premier League title. They will definitely sign at forward come the end of the season, but in all likelihood, more than one striker will arrive.
