Madrid’s Benzema is a target for the English duo.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been impressing once again this season and Chelsea and Manchester City are both keen on signing the Frenchman, according to talkSPORT.
Benzema’s current deal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of next season and with the 26-year-old keen on a switch to the Premier League, may help engineer a move away from the Spanish capital.
It’s thought that bids of £40m and upwards will be enough to convince Los Blancos to sell and both City and the Blues are keen to capitalise.
The latter are perhaps the most desperate for attacking support as none of the current striking trio of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres have impressed at Stamford Bridge this term.
Eto’o’s contract expires in the summer and a new deal is not expected to be offered, whilst both Ba and Torres have been linked with moves away.
With 23 goals in 39 matches for Madrid this season it’s easy to see why Benzema would be an attractive prospect, but the Citizens would almost certainly have to sell to accomodate the forward.
Both Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo have been in fine form in 2013/14 and are therefore unlikely to be departing the Etihad Stadium, whilst Stevan Jovetic only signed from Fiorentina last summer.
Therefore Edin Dzeko is the man who would probably be sacrificed if Manuel Pellegrini did make a move for Benzema – with the Chilean having bought the attacker to the Spanish capital back in 2009 for £30m from Olympique Lyon.
Since signing for Los Merengues the former Lyon star has 111 goals in 222 appearances in all competitions.
