Carlton have revealed they will not actively pursue Sydney Swans midfielder Tom Mitchell, but indicated GWS Giants key position player Kristian Jaksch remained in the club’s sights.
Mitchell’s future has been the subject of much speculation.
The 21-year-old has struggled for game time with the Swans in 2014 despite some impressive performances.
The ball-magnet has been linked with a move to Visy Park, but Carlton football operations manager Andrew McKay said the Blues would not poach the player from the Swans.
“I’ve said to Tom’s management and also the Sydney Swans over the last couple of weeks that we won’t be approaching Tom to get his services,” McKay told AFL Trade Radio.
“The only way we would is if he told Sydney that he wanted to come back to Melbourne to play football.
“We won’t be actively seeking to pull him out of the Sydney Swans.”
McKay however did confirm that Carlton were interested in Jaksch, particularly after Jarrad Waite signalled his intentions to leave the club.
“Certainly we’re definitely looking at Kristian if he decides that he’s coming home,” McKay said.
“Obviously he plays in a similar role that Jarrad Waite has. So we’d be keen on pursuing that if and when that arises.”
