Two of the more desperate clubs in the AFL will clash in round four, as the Carlton Blues take on the Melbourne Demons at the MCG, with more than just four competition points up for grabs.
While the Demons loss to Greater Western Sydney last round was no unexpected given their overall record in recent season, they again find themselves on the bottom of the ladder.
With new coach Paul Roos at the helm, Dees fans were hoping for a new era, but they only saw much of the same old story when they went down to the Giants by 32 points.
The Demons lost the disposal count 92-56 in the final 29 minutes of the game and had five players fail to manage a disposal in the last quarter.
Melbourne was also out-tackled 115-70 in wet conditions and had 17 fewer scoring shots for the game.
Roos took aim at defender Dean Terlich at three-quarter time last weekend, and said he might get in more player’s faces if they cannot begin to turn their flagging season fortune around this weekend against the Blues.
“[We need to] focus on the things we are doing wrong so we can correct them to make sure we can get better,” Roos said on Monday.
“Dean and I had a bit of a discussion when he was on the bench about making sure we kick it long to the rucks and the centre-half back and then he kicked it short to ‘Fitzy’ (Jack Fitzpatrick) and they kicked a goal,” Roos said.
“They are just reminders. Sometimes [they are] a bit stronger than other times but given I had a direct discussion with him, I just thought he didn’t hear me quite loud enough, so I had to say it a little bit louder.”
While things are desperate at the Dees, they are even worse with Carlton after their thrashing at the hands of arch-rivals Essendon in round three.
The Blues never looked in the game and were rushed into poor execution and simple errors by the Bombers as they slumped to an 81-point loss, their third of the season.
