Billed as the future of the super-middleweight division, Smith will be looking to produce his best performance yet in front of his home fans on Friday as he tops the ‘All or Nothing’ bill.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, trainer Joe Gallagher and many others believe that ‘Mundo’ will inevitable become a world champion, but after 16 wins in 16 professional fights, he knows he still has a long way to go.
While he will be looking to produce a more emphatic win over Rebrasse than George Groves was able to achieve last year, the ‘Saint’ is in Smith’s sights next year in what could be a world title fight if the latter can defeat Badou Jack in their bout which is tipped to happen in August.
However, as he proved against Groves, Rebrasse is no pushover and this is expected to be the most difficult test of Smith’s career thus far.
Nevertheless, he remains confident that he is good enough to step up a level and get the job done, and that will put him in a strong position to challenge for a title in 2016.
The 25-year-old will be backed by his brothers and a passionate Liverpool crowd, with the likes of Tony Bellew and Rocky Fielding also on the card in what promises to be a great night of boxing.
He won’t let that distract him though, and given Rebrasse’s preferred style of coming forward and fighting inside, it could be the perfect fight for Smith to announce himself at the next level.
The Liverpudlian is a fearsome body puncher and has good all-round boxing skills and a high IQ, and the prediction is that he stops his opponent late on and continues on his path towards becoming a world champion sooner rather than later.
