Dutchman opts to remain with Schalke.
Arsenal target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has snubbed interest from the Gunners and signed a new contract with Schalke.
The 29-year-old was in the final year of his deal with the Bundesliga giants and was free to talk to foriegn suitors in January, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believed to be an admirer of the Dutchman.
But Huntelaar has now decided to stay at the Veltins Arena until 2015.
The Netherlands international posted on his official Facebook account: “I’m very pleased to announce that I have renewed my contract with FC Schalke 04 until June 2015.
“I want to thank all the Schalke fans for their patience over the past period. From the beginning I’ve had a good feeling with the club and the fans.
“I believe that we can achieve beautiful things in the Bundesliga and Champions League. I’m proud that I can be part of this beautiful club.”
Huntelaar, who boasts Real Madrid and AC Milan amongst his former employers, finished top scorer in the Bundesliga last season and has scored over 40 goals in just 70 league appearances for Schalke.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of centre forwards in the past month, with David Villa of Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente and Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez all thought to be on Wenger’s radar.
