Brisbane Lions youngster James Aish looks set to sign with a the club on a long-term deal, but says he isn’t in a big hurry to do so.
Aish doesn’t come out of contract until the end of the 2015 season, however the Lions are keen to lock-in one of the league’s brightest young talents long term.
The 18-year-old told The Courier-Mail he’s been in no rush to discuss contracts – he wanted to focus on getting through his first year of AFL football.
He has now settled into life at the Lions and is starting to look ahead to the future.
“I just wanted to focus on playing good footy and my transition into the AFL so that’s where we left it with the club,” Aish told The Courier-Mail.
“The off-season is here now so we can sit down and have a talk to get the ball rolling.”
His comments will serve as music to the ears of Lions fans, who see Aish, along with Rising Star winner Lewy Taylor as the future of the club.
Aish played in all but one of the Lions’ games in his debut season, averaging 18 disposals and 9 kicks.
