Liverpool have rejected an approach from Napoli for defender Martin Skrtel, according to BBC Sport’s Ben Smith.
Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez signed Skrtel from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008 and the Spaniard, now in charge of Napoli, is keen for a reunion with the 28-year-old.
Skrtel fell out of favour under current Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers last term and the Slovakian international is behind Daniel Agger and summer signing Kolo Toure in the pecking order.
But, with Sebastian Coates sidelined six months, Rodgers is unlikely to allow Skrtel to leave Anfield until the club have signed another centre-half.
Liverpool have been linked with Tiago Ilori of Sporting CP and Schalke’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
