Vilanova insists the midfielder is going nowhere.
With rumour rife that Manchester United are preparing a move for Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova has spoken out insisting the 26-year-old is staying put.
After missing out on Fabregas’ Barca team mate Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich, United have turned their attention towards the former Arsenal man.
However, Vilanova is not prepared to let the Spain international leave, particularly after losing Thiago to the Bundesliga champions.
“I am aware that we have received offers from other teams. I talked with him and he told me he wants to stay,” the manager was quoted on goal.com.
“Cesc doesn’t contemplate the possibility of going to another club. He knows that the competition here is great. His dream is to succeed here. I’m totally calm.”
This news will come as blow to the Red Devils who had hoped to bring in the midfielder to shore things up in the middle of the park following the retirement of Paul Scholes.
The club may now have to turn their attention back towards Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, with the Belgian being given the opportunity to reunite with David Moyes at Old Trafford.
Another option for United is Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, who has proven his capabilities in the Premier League following the Croatian’s time with Tottenham Hotspur.
Whoever Moyes decides to focus his attention on, it’s likely that the Scot will face a tough battle if he wants to sign Fabregas and the comments from Vilanova may have stopped all hopes in any case.
