Mayweather camp says Pacquiao fight close: Announcement could be made before end of January.
Promoter Bob Arum has revealed that Manny Pacquiao has agreed to everything that Floyd Mayweather has asked and now it is up to the American to sign the fight off.
Arum conceded that Pacquiao can’t wait around forever for the fight to be announced as he will have to consider his other options if Mayweather is not keen on the bout.
The Top Rank official was speaking to the Bulletin from his Las Vegas home according to World Boxing News, and he revealed how far negotiations have gone from his camp’s perspective.
“Manny’s made a lot of sacrifices to make this fight,” Arum said, noting that if Mayweather remains unconvinced, “nothing will be enough to persuade him to sign. Pacquiao has agreed to take the smaller share of the purse and give in to Mayweather’s every whims and caprices, said Arum.
“Nothing’s gonna happen if Floyd keeps on moving the goalpost.”
Arum added that Mayweather’s people are now on board with Pacquiao’s team but it is up to the unbeaten American superstar himself as to whether or not he fight will go ahead.
He also revealed that the networks, HBO and Showtime, shouldn’t have too many issues in order to come to an agreement over a joint-broadcast of the fight and so essentially the whole situation is revolving around Mayweather.
However, in bad news for fight fans who are desperately hoping for this fight to finally be made, Arum added that if the Mayweather fight doesn’t happen, Pacquiao is looking to get out in late-April or sometime in May and so they will have to move on if their biggest rival is not interested in the fight.
“Finally, Arum added that if the fight doesn’t take place “it’s not because we didn’t want the fight but Mayweather didn’t want it.”
