Borussia Dortmund host Arsenal in UEFA Champions League Group F knowing that a victory will take them ahead of the Gunners and into one of the two qualification places.
The Bundesliga giants won 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on match day three of Europe’s top tier competition, thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Robert Lewandowski, but Arsene Wenger will feel his team were unlucky to be defeated.
Dortmund had just a single shot on the north London side’s goal in the second half, which Lewandowski scored from, and there were suggestions that the Poland international forward should not have still been on the pitch after a stray elbow hit the face of Gunners defender Laurent Koscielny.
Santi Cazorla hit the woodwork too earlier in the second half, and despite a number of opportunities Wenger was understandably disappointed that the north Londoners overcommitted in attack and were caught on the break late on.
Arsenal’s away form has been superb for much of 2013, with a 0-2 victory against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in March last season beginning their resurgence.
The Gunners now have Mesut Ozil amongst their ranks, as well as immensely improved players such as Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud, and will have a great chance even at Signal Iduna Park.
The wily German boss Jurgen Klopp will remain confident of masterminding another success against Arsenal, with the team’s free-flowing football and high octane pressing a potent combination.
Arsenal did earn a creditable draw at Dortmund in 2011, and this rematch promises to be one of the most exciting and watchable games of the group stage.
