United lone runners in bid to sign Madrid star.Manchester United will not face competition from Chelsea in the race to sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, with Jose Mourinho ruling out a bid for his former player, the Metro reports.
Both clubs have been linked with the 29-year-old in recent times as his future at Real looks uncertain, but Mourinho now looks to have dismissed the idea of working with his fellow countryman again.
Mourinho has sensationally claimed that the two have no relationship and that their days of working together are very much in the past.
“The relationship between Ronaldo and myself is non-existent,” he said. “He plays for Real Madrid, I’m the Chelsea manager.
“You would not find us hanging around together. The relationship does not exist but the memories of his impact do.
“I have to remind myself that he is a goal machine who helped me become a Liga champion, win the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa.
“I try to keep the best memories of Cristiano Ronaldo with me and I wish him all the best in his career – especially with Portugal but also with his club.”
