Matthews received $15k fine for hit on Kaepernick.
San Francisco 49ers right guard Alex Boone has revealed he’d “probably punch Clay Matthews in the face” rather than take a fine for his hit on Colin Kaepernick.
The ill-feeling between the 49ers and Green Bay Packers has rumbled on this past week, after Jim Harbaugh called out Matthews for his late hit on quarterback Kaepernick in last weekend’s 34-28 win for San Francisco.
It appeared as though the Packers star took down the 25-year-old despite the fact that he was a few yards out of bounds.
Matthews responded to accusations of being a dirty player this week by dismissing any notion of him doing anything untoward, jokingly calling himself an “awesome player” during an interview.
While Harbaugh decided to end talk between the two parties by insisting he had no reaction to the $15,000 fine the NFL handed Matthews, Boone took a different approach when asked by reporters on Saturday what his punishment would be.
“Probably punch him in the face,” Boone said via CSNBayArea.com. “I don’t want his money.”
As the war of words are is likely to continue beyond the weekend, Harbaugh will be keen for his players to focus on the task in hand as they face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the Packers will hope to bounce back from that defeat as they host the Washington Redskins who also lost their opening game of the season.
It isn’t the first time Matthews has been involved in an on-field incident, as he was fined $5,000 back in 2010 for a facemask penalty against Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
