Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus has reportedly failed a conditioning test and will be added to the non-football injury list as training camp opens.
“He needs to focus on getting himself ready,” Bills HC Doug Marrone told reporters.
Dareus, a 2013 Pro Bowler who recorded over 70 tackles and 7.5 sacks, cannot participate in any training camp drills and cannot be removed from the list until he successfully completes the conditioning test.
Dareus was arrested for possession of synthetic marijuana and drag racing this past off-season and may be subject to discipline by the league.
The Bills opened training camp today in Rochester, New York. The team went 6-10 in 2013 during Marrone’s first year as head coach.
In 2010, Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth famously failed a similar test repeatedly, which ultimately caused a rift between him and the team, culminating in his release at the end of the season.
