Fresh from putting on a superb night of entertainment for their fans on New Year’s Eve, the Adelaide Strikers will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in BBL|03 in front of another thumping home crowd against the Sydney Sixers.
After accounting for last year’s champions, the Brisbane Heat, in a low-scoring affair, the Sixers can jump into the top three on the competition table if they can overcome the team considered by many to be a smokey for this summer’s title.
The Sixers still wouldn’t be overly happy with their performances to date though, and really need everything to click in this game.
The Strikers welcome a host of new faces for the first time this summer, including Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who will be making his T20 Big Bash League debut.
Al Hasan will be replacing Strikers captain Johan Botha, who sustained a thumb injury in the Strikers’ win against Perth. In 26 T20 internationals for Bangladesh, Al Hasan averages 20.30 with the bat at a strike rate of 125.71. He has taken 33 wickets with an economy rate of 6.74.
The Strikers have made three changes to their 13-man squad. With captain Johan Botha confirmed to miss two games, Shakib Al Hasan will debut and Phillip Hughes takes over the captaincy.
Left-arm spinner Jon Holland has also been included in the squad for the first time in BBL|03 after recovering from a shoulder injury.
Paceman Gary Putland has returned to the squad for fellow left-arm quick Ben Oakley. Kane Richardson has recovered from a stomach virus and is likely to return to the team, while Jono Dean, 12th man against the Scorchers, is struggling with hip soreness.
