AC Milan owner keeping tabs on Italian full-back.
AC Milan owner and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has admitted his admiration for Newcastle full-back Davide Santon, according to Sky Sports.
The San Siro side are reportedly keeping tabs on the player in case he should become available.
Their interest comes despite the fact that the player began his career with their bitter rivals, Inter.
Milan are seeking to revive their ageing squad and has singled out Santon as a player capable of forming the backbone of a new-look, younger AC Milan team.
Whether Berlusconi, who is known for his infamous bunga-bunga parties, will make anything of his reported interest remains to be seen. The media mogul is likely to be distracted in the coming months after announcing his intention to return to Italian politics, standing for election once more as Italian Prime Minister.
Newcastle will be reluctant to part ways with the Italian international, who has made the left-back spot his own at St James Park after an initially difficult start.
Currently sitting in 15th place, just two points above the relegation zone, Newcastle have one of the league’s leakiest defences after having conceded 39 goals in 21 games. Only Aston Villa and Reading have conceded more.
