Thiago Silva will not be heading to the Nou Camp this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain defender and record transfer Thiago Silva will not be moving to Barcelona this summer says the player’s agent.
The Catalans have shown interest in Silva as they bid to improve at the back, with the constant absence of veteran Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano and Adriano simply filling in as stopgaps in central defence.
Likewise with the expected departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid and the Italian’s replacement set to be Laurent Blanc, it was unknown whether the Brazilian would want to remain at PSG.
Yet Silva’s agent Paulo Tonietto has insisted that the 28-year-old will be going nowhere in this upcoming transfer window and that the centre-back is happy with Blanc taking over.
“He is happy in Paris and that’s how it will stay,” Tonietto was quoted in Le JDD.
“Laurent Blanc can’t be a bad choice, he has been the coach of the France national team – he cannot be bad.
“He is at the same level as all the names mentioned so far (Capello, Hiddink, Rijkaard, Villas-Boas etc). These are all great coaches.”
Silva helped guide PSG to their first French league title in 17 years in 2012/13, playing 34 matches in all competitions for the Parisian club including driving them forward to the Champions League quarter-finals.
The defender is also captain of the Brazil national team, having played 37 times for the nation including three appearances at the current Confederations Cup.
Silva became the most expensive defender in transfer history when PSG paid AC Milan £37m for his services in the summer of 2012.
