Tello preferred to be a back-up in Catalonia to a move to Merseyside.
Liverpool attempted to sign Cristian Tello this summer, but the young winger has revealed that the Spaniard chose to stay as an understudy at Barcelona.
The 22-year-old is a product of the prolific Barca youth academy and whilst there was interest from the Reds, Tello never thought about leaving the Nou Camp.
“I always wanted to stay here,” the starlet was quoted by the Mirror.
“I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never thought about leaving.”
Tello has played 58 times for the first team to date, scoring 15 goals and providing nine assists – but is among a strong group of competitors for a place in the side.
Along with Andres Iniesta, Ibrahim Affelay, Pedro and Alexis Sanchez, the Catalans also paid a huge £48.6m for Brazilian sensation Neymar this summer.
This means that the chances of Tello getting first team opportunities are extremely slim, but the Spain international is happy to wait until new head coach Gerardo Martino gives the young forward a chance.
Liverpool looked to La Liga for several recruitments this summer, with Luis Alberto arriving from Sevilla, Iago Aspas being bought from Celtia Vigo and Valencia full-back Aly Cissokho being acquired on-loan.
Manager Brendan Rodgers also looked into the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa, but the Brazil international decided to stay at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
However, the Merseyside outfit have been praised for their dealings in the transfer market, bringing in eight new faces and selling flops Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing.
