Nou Camp communications chief quiet on Villa switch to Vincente Calderon.
Barcelona communications chief Toni Freixa has refused to disclose the reasons the club sold Spain international David Villa to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid for just €5.1m, according to the Europa Press.
Spanish-speaking English football journalist Lee Roden translated Freixa’s quotes, originally tweeted by Catradioesports, and shared them on twitter:
RT @Catradioesports Toni Freixa: “I understand that some transfers [Villa] are difficult to comprehend if you don’t know the circumstances”.

While Freixa did not mention any specifics, Europa believe that the key reasons for the cheap sale of Villa were his desire to stay in Spain during a World Cup season, and the fact that his Barcelona contract would have rocketed if he were to stay in Catalonia for another year.
Freixa also confirmed that Barcelona are looking to sign another centre-back, with Brazilian duo Thiago Silva and David Luiz targets according to ESPN.
RT @Catradioesports Toni Freixa : “One of the positions we’re working on is centreback. Maybe someone will come in the end, maybe not.”
