Former Blues boss reveals his long admiration for Parker.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas Boas has revealed he has been an admirer of Scott Parker for some time. So much so that he tried to lure the midfielder back to Stamford Bridge during his time as Chelsea manager, reports The Independent.
Villas Boas apparently tried to make Parker one of his first signings after joining the club in the summer of 2011.
The move never went through however as Villas Boas instead opted for Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu on account of his younger age.
Romeu has since failed to impress at the Bridge, but AVB is happy how things have turned out as he now finds himself sat in the dugout at White Hart Lane.
‘I spoke with Scotty to come back to Chelsea last season. He’s an important player, an English international, and a great professional and somebody of great ability. He can always give you an extra edge on the pitch with his leadership. He’s back to full fitness and a player we trust a lot. It’s important to have people like him around us.’
Parker joined Chelsea during the reign of Jose Mourinho in 2004, when Villas Boas was also at the club in a scouting capacity. The player lasted just a year though before being sold to Newcastle.
