Europa League Champions eyeing summer bid for striker.
Arsenal’s pursuit of David Villa has been dealt a blow by the news that Atletico Madrid are also tracking the Barcelona striker.
fanatix tickets – Barclays Premier League tickets are still available for next weekend’s games.
Sunderland vs Arsenal tickets are on sale from £23 for this Saturday’s match at the Stadium of Light.
The Gunners are thought to be plotting a summer bid for Villa, after missing out on the 31-year-old in January.
But Atletico are also likely to move for the Spain international if they lose star striker Radamel Falcao at the end of the season, reports the Metro.
Falcao is among the most highly-rated forwards in Europe and the Colombian has scored 18 La Liga goals in just 19 appearances so far this term.
Both Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as Atletico’s neighbours Real Madrid, are thought to be eyeing a move for the 26-year-old and Atletico boss Diego Simeone regards Villa as the ideal replacement for the former Porto man.
The Spaniard has started just seven games for Barcelona this term, with boss Tito Vilanova favouring the likes of Pedro, Alexis Sanchez and Cristian Tello as support for Lionel Messi.
Villa is thought to be keen to remain in Spain but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remains hopeful that the Gunners’ Spanish contingent – recently boosted by the arrival of left-back Nacho Monreal – can convince the former Valenia forward to move to the Emirates.
