The Gunners are the latest English side to eye up the German.
Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil has been the subject of interest for Manchester United this summer, but it is now Arsenal who are preparing a £38m offer for the Germany international, according to the Sun.
With just a week left in the transfer window, the Gunners have still only made one new signing in the shape of France under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo.
While Sanogo is likely to be a product for the future, fans at the Emirates Stadium want to see some big names arriving in north London so that the club can compete for the Premier League title once more.
There was excitement at the start of this window when it was revealed manager Arsene Wenger had a £70m transfer kitty to spend, but since then targets Gonzalo Higuain, Luiz Gustavo and Luis Suarez have slipped away.
Now it is Ozil who is the latest on the wishlist as Wenger looks to Madrid once more for new acquisitions, having already investigated the possibility of signing Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria.
Whilst neither of those have come to fruition, it’s thought the German may well be open to leaving the Santiago Bernabeu due to the impending arrival of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite the fact that Ozil has been a regular first team choice for the past two years with Los Blancos, the 24-year-old could struggle this term for a place with the influx of new attacking midfielders – young Spaniard Isco has also arrived.
