Gunners want Ashley Williams at the Emirates Stadium after Vermaelen blow.
Arsenal will step up their pursuit of Swansea defender Ashley Williams after club captain Thomas Vermaelen was ruled out for three months with a back injury, reports Goal.com.
Vermaelen will not be available until mid-October after being diagnosed with a stress fracture to his lower back.
The Belgian’s injury leaves Gunners boss Arsene Wenger with just Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and the inexperienced Miquel as cover at centre-half and the club will now attempt to agree a fee with Swansea for Williams.
The north London outfit reportedly agreed person terms with the 28-year-old Welshman in May but are unwilling to meet the Jacks’ £12m asking price, with Wenger thought to value the former Stockport County defender at between £8m and £10m.
