Gunners will turn to Athletic Bilbao striker, as Llorente alternative.
Arsenal will renew their interest in Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente after top target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar agreed a new deal with Schalke, it has emerged.
Llorente, 27, is in the final year of his contract in Bilabo and is almost certain to leave the La Liga outfit in January.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger watched the Euro 2012 winner over the summer but opted to pursue Bundesliga goal-machine Huntelaar instead.
The Dutchman, however, has agreed a new deal to remain at the Veltins Arena until 2018, so Wenger turn to Llorente to boost his misfiring front-line.
The powerful forward has made just one start for Bilbao this year and has faced boos from sections of the Sam Mames crowd.
Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the Basque striker but it is understood that Wenger is determined to boost his front-line in January and is ready to make a £7m bid in the next week.
Bilabo have publicly insisted that they want to keep Llorente until the summer but the club are ready to cash-in on the forward rather than lose him for nothing in six months.
Llorente is desperate to play in the Champions League and would not be cup tied if he joined Arsneal in January.
The Spaniard will be able to discuss terms with foreign clubs in the New Year and has previous admitted that the Premier League appeals to him.
“I really like the Premier League and I’ve mentioned on more than one occasion that it’s a league which appeals to me a lot,” he said earlier this month.
“You never know. It’s one good option in terms of my future but we’ll have to wait until the end of the season to see what happens.
“It is true that we are approaching the date when I can sign for other clubs.”
