Speculation has been rife all week that the North Londoners are about to sign the powerful Senegal international, although Hammers boss Sam Allardyce said that the club have yet to receive any offers for the player.
And that speculation increased on Wednesday when West Ham left Diame out of their starting line-up for their Premier League trip to the Emirates, although Allardyce said that was only due to an injury precaution.
However, it is understood that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is still seriously considering whether or not to make a move for the 25-year-old, who has a £3.5 million release clause in his contract, having only arrived at Upton Park on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic last summer.
The Frenchman feels that with the North Londoners currently short of numbers in the middle of the park, the 6ft 1in defensive midfield player could be worth a gamble, especially at such a low fee, with their only concern being his defensive weaknesses, although Wenger still thinks these can be ironed out on the training pitch.
