Ramsey is still two weeks away from first team action says Wenger.
After being ruled out of yet another Premier League title race there is more bad news for Arsenal as manager Arsene Wenger confirms Aaron Ramsey has suffered an injury setback.
The Welshman has not played for the Gunners since Boxing Day after picking up a thigh injury, but was expected to be back in the first team by now.
However, Wenger has revealed that Ramsey is still a fortnight away from playing and the 23-year-old’s problems only add to a growing number of fitness issues for the club.
“It’s difficult to fight with half of the team out,” the 64-year-old was quoted by Goal.
“Ramsey is maybe the closest. Maybe two weeks, but he’s had little setbacks.”
Wenger’s men drew 2-2 with Swansea City on Tuesday to – in the manager’s own words – rule the team out of the title race.
It was Ramsey’s brilliant early form in 2013/14 that had originally propelled the club towards the top of the table, with the midfielder scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 27 matches in all competitions.
The Wales international joins Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil, Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott on the absentee list, as Arsenal enter an important final run-in and could even be challenged for the Champions League places by Everton – who are only six points behind them with a game in hand.
