Wenger wants youngster at Emirates.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has set his sights on St Etienne’s teenage centre-back Kurt Zouma, as part of his New Year spending spree at the Emirates.
Zouma, 18, has impressed this season for the Ligue 1 side and is also being tracked by Manchester United.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson has stressed he will not be making any additions to his squad in January, putting Arsenal in pole position for the French youngster.
Zouma, who represents France at under-19 level, played 24 times for St Etienne last term, scoring twice, and has again featured in the first team this season.
The starlet signed a three-year deal in April 2011 but should be available for around £5m in January, with Wenger understood to have been promised a significant transfer kitty to help salvage the Gunners’ season.
Wenger is confident that Zouma is mature enough to feature in the Premier League straight away and the under-pressure boss is also targeting a striker, a winger and a defensive midfielder.
