Vilanova says Barcelona are ‘happy’ with striker.
Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova has confirmed that Arsenal target David Villa will not be leaving the Nou Camp this month.
Villa has been linked with a move to Arsenal after finding first team opportunities limited in Catalonia this season after his recovery from a serious leg injury.
The 31-year-old has started just six games this season, with Vilanova preferring Pedro, Christian Tello and Alexis Sanchez as support for the irrepressible Lionel Messi.
But the Spain international has still found the net five times in La Liga, suggesting the goal-scoring form that earned him a £33m move from Valencia in 2009 has not deserted him.
And after watching Barcelona beat Malaga 1-0 on Sunday, Vilanova confirmed that the Woirld Cup winner was going nowhere.
He told reporters: “David is not going to leave. We are very happy with him.”
Arsenal are keen to land a new striker this month as support for summer signing Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
The Gunners have also been linked with moves for Villa’s compatriots Adrian Lopez and Alvaro Negredo.
