The Gunners will bid for Swansea’s Ashley Williams…
Arsenal are set to shell out £10m on Swansea’s Welsh centre-half Ashley Williams, reports The Daily Mirror.
Due to a string of injuries to Arsenal’s back line, French manager Arsene Wenger is considering a bid for the 28-year-old battler.
Arsenal’s Belgian stopper Thomas Vermaelen is out for six weeks with a back injury, and Spanish left-back Nacho Monreal is also expected to miss the start of the season. As a result, the Gunners could be left short in defence, with only Per Merteseacker and Lorient Koscielny genuine starting centre-half options.
Williams would suit Wenger’s slick brand of football, as the Welshman is comfortable with the ball at his feet, and is capable of passing the ball into midfield. He is also much faster than Mertesacker, who has taken much criticism from Arsenal’s fans for his laboured approach.
The defender would cost around £10m, after two impressive seasons in the Premier League with the Swans.
Arsenal fans will be pleased to see the club investing in a first team player, although they would be more excited to see the club invest in some genuine world-class attacking talent. Two bids for Luis Suarez have been rejected, and Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain joined Napoli, despite strong interest from the London side.
Gunners fans will continue to patiently wait for the big money striker signing.
