The Gunners still want to bring in a world-class forward, and have earmarked the La Liga hotshot…
Arsenal are lining up an extremely ambitious move for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa when the transfer window opens in January, reports Goal.
Costa has been a revelation this season, and established himself as one of the most feared strikers in European football. Only Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo have scored as many league goals (17) as Costa in Europe, which demonstrates the calibre of the striker.
Atletico Madrid though will be desperate to keep the striker, and will probably be able to do so as they currently top the La Liga table level on points with Barcelona, and qualified easily for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool had a £22m rejected in the summer, so it seems that the Gunners would have to bid at least double that to even tempt Atletico into selling. The Spanish club have a history of selling their star forwards though, and have previously sold Fernando Torres and Sergio Aguero to the Premier League.
If the Gunners somehow managed to pull off the deal, it would no doubt strengthen the title push, and their chances of a first Premier League title since 2004. With Olivier Giroud as the only top level striking option available, a striker is seen by many as a necessity – and Costa fits the bill perfectly.
