Huntelaar rumours are a ‘fairytale’ insists Heldt.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has dismissed speculation that Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is poised to join Arsenal in January.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at Schalke at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal with the Bundesliga club.
Huntelaar, who boasts AC Milan and Real Madrid among his former employers, finished the top scorer in Germany last season and is regarded as one of the most deadly poachers in world football.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has money to spend in January and is reportedly keen to land the Netherlands international in a cut-price deal.
But Heldt has rejected the rumours, branding them a “fairytale”.
Heldt told German football website Kicker: “[Huntelaar leaving] is just a rumour and a fairytale. There is no truth to the rumours linking with him with Arsenal.”
Huntelaar has score 42 league goals in 70 appearances for Schalke and has netted 34 in 59 appearances for the Netherlands – a better haul than his compatriot and former Arsenal star Robin van Persie.
