Forward optimistic of agreeing Emirates Stadium stay.
Theo Walcott would not be drawn when asked about his stuttering contract talks after a dazzling display for Arsenal this evening.
Walcott, who only has six months to run on his current deal at the Emirates, scored during the Gunners’ emphatic 5-2 win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
But the England international would only say that talks over a deal to keep him at the Emirates are going to take time.
He said: ‘Talks are ongoing and it’s going to be a slow process. It’s taking a long time but hopefully something will happen soon.’

This will be music to the ears of the Arsenal fans.
Theo Walcott was looking increasingly likely to be the latest superstar to leave the Emirates for pastures new, with the Gunners were facing the double-ignominity of losing another player to a Premier League rival, with Liverpool and Man United leading the chase for the 23-year-old.
But the England international has confirmed that he is locked in talks over a deal with the North London club and is hopeful of reaching a resolution ‘soon’.
Key to Walcott’s contractual dispute with the Gunners is his desire to play as a centre-forward, rather than on the wing.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is showing signs that he is willing to bow to Walcott’s demands and the Frenchman played the former Southampton man in a central striking role from the start in Monday night’s impressive 5-2 win at Reading.
Walcott did not disappoint, grabbing Arsenal’s fifth goal to take his Premier League tally for the season to five – not bad for a player who has made just six starts.
There are also reports that the speedster is demanding over £100,000 per week, with the club only willing to offer around £75,000 but if Walcott is playing up-front and scoring, it’s likely that club and player will reach a happy medium.
