Arteta hopes the club bring some new talent to the Emirates.
With Arsenal said to have a big transfer budget this summer, star midfielder Mikel Arteta has admitted that it is about time the Gunners made some top signings.
As yet none of the famous names linked with the Emirates have made the move, with young striker Yaya Sanogo the only new acquisition to date, yet Arteta is confident they will happen.
“The club have said they are going to be very ambitious in the market and have got the financial resources to get big players. I think it’s about time,” the 31-year-old was quoted in the Mirror.
“When you compare us to the other top English clubs and the money they have paid, we are very far apart.
“The value of this club is the class and what it means is very difficult to match. There has never been a tradition at Arsenal to pay crazy, crazy money.
“But now, financially, they are very strong so maybe we will be more aggressive in the transfer market.
“I am excited. They made it public that they are going to go big. The sort of players they have been linked with makes me happy.”
The north London club have been linked with several high profile signings in the past few weeks, with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez of Liverpool just two top calibre rumours.
With Arsenal having been known as a selling club in the past – with Robin Van Persie having departed last summer and both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri leaving in 2011 – it will be a welcome change for the fans to see big names coming in instead.
It could be an extremely exciting transfer window in the run up to the highly anticipated 2013/14 season, with United, Manchester City and Chelsea all in the market as well with their big wallets.
