Wenger ready to make move for young goalkeeper Jack Butland.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to commit to the transfer market and make a move for Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland according to The Daily Star.
Birmingham reportedly rejected bids of £6 million from Southampton and Fulham during the summer but with Birmingham being increasingly beset by financial problems, it is rumoured that the Midlands club may now be willing to do business.
Wenger has been a keen admirer of the young stopper for some time and is reportedly ready to make a move during the current transfer window.
The Arsenal manager is looking to bring in a quality goalkeeper to provide competition to current Emirates no. 1, Wojciech Szczesny.
While Wenger still rates the Polish international, Szczesny’s form has been patchier this season and it is believed that some quality competition can help the player reach his high standards of last season.
Arsenal will face competition for Butland’s signature from a number of clubs.
Fulham and Southampton can both be expected to return with bids for the player who made his England debut in the friendly against Italy at the end of last year.
They are likely to be joined by Liverpool and Everton but it remains to be seen whether the player will seek to further his development at one of the league’s top clubs or prefer a move which is more likely to yield first team football.
