Arsenal want to bolster their striking options ahead of next season with a £28m move for Chelsea owned belgian Romelu Lukaku, reports Caught Offside.
The 20-year-old starlet has already established a reputation as one of the most dangerous forwards in the top flight, having backed up last season’s impressive loan spell with West Brom with an equally promising term with Everton.
The Gunners badly need to buy a new striker, with Nicklas Bendtner leaving on a free in the summer, Yaya Sanogo still yet to score a goal for the club, and questions consistently raised over the long-term suitability of Olivier Giroud.
Lukaku has notched 13 this season, and impressed everyone with his strength and holdup play, and as a result, Arsenal want to bring him to the Emirates in time for next season.
While Chelsea would likely consider doing business for the rumoured £28m offer, it’s unsure yet as to whether they’d consider selling the striker to a direct rival.
In 2013, the Blues offloaded Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool, and the striker has blossomed at Anfield, helping to fire the Reds to the top of the Premier League table.
Jose Mourinho would be desperate not to let this happen again, so would obviously prefer to sell Lukaku to a club abroad. However, Chelsea sold Juan Mata to Manchester United in January, so if the money is right, they could be tempting into doing business with the North Londoners.
