Arsenal are badly in need of some reinforcements this summer, with their title charge once again collapsing midway through the campaign. Arsene Wenger is apparently determined to lure Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante to the Emirates, with the manager planning to activate the midfielder’s release clause, according to The Evening Standard.
Injuries and poor form once again derailed Arsenal’s season, with the lengthy absences of players like Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla playing a huge part. Kante has been superb for Leicester and would be an excellent acquisition for the Gunners, and with the report suggesting he’s got a £19.8m release clause he could be a real bargain.
Although £19.8m for a top quality and Premier League winning midfielder would arguably be a bargain, Arsenal would still have to stump up some serious cash to lure him away. Arsene Wenger has really struggled to get the best out of his players this season, and with Leicester City winning the title he has to be asking himself how his team weren’t able to come closer. A few additions will certainly help their cause ahead of the 2016/17 season though, and starting with N’Golo Kante could be a great move.
The Gunners are apparently facing competition from both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, but while wages could potentially come into it, with a set release clause their financial firepower won’t mean a huge amount.
Leicester will also be keen to keep hold of him, but despite their fantastic season they may find it difficult to keep their top stars at the club. Kante is currently on just £25,000 a week, which all three clubs could obviously improve on massively.
