Gunners want Everton’s Fellaini in January transfer window.
The Daily Mail has claimed that Arsenal are ready to ‘loosen’ their purse-strings and and meet Marouane Fellaini’s £22m release-clause.
The big-haired Belgian midfielder would surely be tempted by a move away from Goodison Park and could realise his true potential at the Emirates Stadium.
The Everton midfielder has a number of clubs ready to meet the clause, inserted in a five-year contract signed in 2011, which can only be triggered by a club who play in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old is into his fifth season on Merseyside and is arguably in the best form of his career, netting nine goals this term to help David Moyes side to mount a genuine push for a Champions League berth.
The powerful midfielder could be an ideal signing to both aid the lack of steel in Arsene Wenger’s first team, whilst also adding a new goal threat. The Everton man could be used in a role that bridges midfield and attack and the former Standard Liege man’s proven Premier League record must also tick another box in the Arsenal manager’s plus column.
Another big plus is the fact that Fellaini could take part in Champions League action this term and is arguably worth more than the £22m it would take to capture the Toffees star.
Arsenal need a strong midfield presence to help protect their more creative talents, a fact that is borne out by the number of injuries suffered by the club’s flair players. Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky have all spent time out with serious knocks over the past few seasons.
Chelsea’s interest may also be a factor but arguably Fellaini could struggle to fit so swiftly in the Blues first team given the summer purchases the West London side made.
