Arsenal preparing surprise move to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.
Arsenal are lining up a January transfer move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, according to Swiss publication Infoticker.
The Italy international has greatly impressed for PSG since he moved to Parc des Princes in July 2012 from Pescara, and has developed into an excellent deep-lying playmaker.
At just 5’5″ tall, his build may not be the most naturally adapted to the physical demands of the Premier League, but has demonstrated enough brilliant ability on the ball to suggest he would be able to evade any challenges thrown his way.
Verratti’s metronomic passing keeps PSG ticking over, with an incredible average of 85 passes per match in the UEFA Champions League this season with a 94.7% completion.
If Arsene Wenger is considering a move for the 20 year-old Verratti, it is likely as a successor to Mikel Arteta given their similar styles.
The Spaniard is 32 years old in March, but if Arsenal are already grooming his replacement, it will not be easy to entice Verratti away from the French capital.
The Italian signed a new contract in August until 2018.
