The powerful centre forward is currently playing his trade on loan at Premier League high-flyers West Bromwich Albion, where he has been since the start of the campaign, however, under the terms of the loan agreement the Belgium international is due to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
However, with the West Londoners having only started the 19-year-old in just the one match since his £18 million transfer from Belgium giants Anderlecht back in August 2011, his future at Stamford Bridge appears to be bleak at best, s factor that most certainly plays into Wenger and Co’s hands.
It is understood that the Frenchman has been hugely impressed with Lukaku’s displays up front for the Baggies this season, where he has netted an impressive nine goals in just nine starts for the club, while at the same time causing mayhem for opposition defences along the way in his lone striking role.
And it is that form that has led Wenger to consider making a shock swoop for the 19-year-old when his loan spell at the Hawthorns comes to an end in May.
