The Blues saw a bid for the Schuerrle rejected in the summer and the 22-year-old has since made it clear that he wants to move to the Premier League.
New Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be keen to resurrect a move for Schuerrle before the close of the transfer window but Arsenal have reportedly moved into pole position for the player.
The former Mainz man who has helped Sami Hyypia’s side to second spot in the Bundesliga this season and his displays have impressed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
The player admitted in July that he wanted to join Chelsea but it is understood he would be equally interested in a move to the Gunners, who have a Champions League last 16 clash with German giants Bayern Munich to look forward to next month.
“I don’t think you would find any player in the Bundesliga who would say that they would not at all be interested,” said Schuerrle told the Press Association in the summer.
“Chelsea would have been very interesting for me. You don’t get a chance like that very often in your life.”
The versatile forward has 20 caps for Germany, 13 of which have come from the bench, and has scored seven times for Joachim Loew’s side.
Domestically, he has scored five times and provided five assists for his team-mates, with the majority of his appearances coming from the left wing.
