Arsenal hope to lure promising youngster to Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will attempt to sign West Bromwich Albion youngster Isaiah Brown after his 17th birthday, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The 16 year-old starlet has been in hugely impressive form for the Baggies’ under-18s team, and has already been rewarded with opportunities with the under-21s – the competition that replaced the reserves league this season.
Isaiah Brown is a forward blessed with phenomenal pace – so much so that his time over 100 metres was fast enough to qualify for the England Schoolboys Championship in 2012.
The comparisons with one Arsenal player will be inevitable – Theo Walcott, who signed a new contract to stay with the Gunners last week.
Running speed frightens defenders more than anything, says Alan Hansen ad nauseam, and it is clearly a factor in his interest in signing Brown.
As Walcott well knows though, technique and the ability to play with the head up are also critical factors in a footballer’s development, and it will only be when Brown is tested against high level players in a first team environment that the West Brom star’s potential will be able to be evaluated.
Whilst Arsenal fans will feel grateful that Wenger has his eye on the future of the club, they will hope that he points some of his attention to the present too.
