How the Gunners rated in the first leg against the Germans.
In what was billed as an extremely difficult Champions League last-16 tie Arsenal were eventually beaten 0-2 by Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.
It was a tough match for the Gunners and here’s how the players rated in the tie.
Wojciech Szczesny – 3
Difficult to pin all the blame on the Pole who needed to do something to stop Arjen Robben, but the reckless challenge, red card and subsequent gesture at the referee ruined the match for the hosts.
Bacary Sagna – 6
Was overwhelmed on the right hand side as Mario Goetze and David Alaba bombed forward relentlessly, but the Frenchman did well against the challenge.
Per Mertesacker – 6
Organised the defence and did well to keep Bayern out for so long, but in the end the European champions were just too much for the home side’s 10 men.
Laurent Koscielny – 6
Another classy display from the France international, but was caught out on a few occasions by the visitors’ runs and was lucky not to concede a penalty when bringing down Thomas Muller.
Kieran Gibbs – 7
Looked strong in the first 30 minutes before an injury cruelly ended the left-back’s night prematurely.
