Arsenal hope to finally conclude long awaited deal with winger.
Arsenal are set to offer Theo Walcott a huge contract in their efforts to convince him to stay at Emirates Stadium for the long term future, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Gunners hope a deal worth £90,000 per week – as well as a signing on fee – could be enough for the England winger to put pen to paper.
Worth more than £25m over five years, it will be one of the biggest contracts offered by Arsenal in their history – and will put Walcott in line with the highest earners at the club, Andrei Arshavin and Lukas Podolski.
Walcott has played like a man with something to prove this season – not least his ability to play as a centre forward – and his status as top scorer has ensured that he has played his cards perfectly.
It will be interesting to see what transfer business Arsenal conclude once the 23 year-old has signed, for it is only after that the club will look to enter the market.
“First of all what I said is that we have to make sure that the players who are here stay here,” said Arsene Wenger.
“After, we look outside. So let’s first try to finalise the deal with Theo Walcott, and after if we need something else we will go somewhere.
“Our first priority is that.”
